A Great Photo Location – Crater Lake
Gallery — By bcampbell
Recently I drove up to Crater Lake in Southern Oregon. It turns out that the lake is situated inside a caldera (not a crater!), which I learned is the “bowl” that is left after a volcano collapses on itself following an eruption. The lake actually was named Crater Lake because in the middle of the lake, which is in the caldera, is an island of volcanic rock, which itself has a crater at the top of it! (No, there is not another lake inside the crater on the island in the lake inside the caldera…)

If you hike down into the caldera, the park service offers boat tours on the lake which provide for some great photo opportunities. I had a great time taking photos but had a little trouble with my camera settings. I have a Canon S3 IS which is kind of in between a point-n-shoot and an SLR. Anyway, here are some of the photos that I thought turned out OK.
